Prosa sem Censura is an old project of the Observatory of Communication, Freedom of Expression and Censorship of the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo – OBCOM-USP, which studies censorship and defends freedom of expression as support for the development of the arts. and of culture. It was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Maria Cristina Castilho Costa. The site aimed to establish a dialogue on the issues that different forms of interdependence to freedom of expression, blessing, disseminated the results of research, as an objective for a democratic, diverse and plural society.

This site, available since 2010, aggregates the digital research collection of the Thematic Project Communication and Censorship: theoretical and documentary analysis of censorship processes from the Miroel Silveira Archive of the ECA/USP library, started in 2009 with funding from FAPESP (Fundação de Support for Research in the State of São Paulo). Through the project, it was possible to preserve and study more than six thousand processes of prior censorship of the theater originated from the Censorship Service of the Department of Public Entertainment of the State of São Paulo (DDP-SP), which worked for 40 years in the cultural activities of the State of São Paulo. Sao Paulo The processes cover dictatorial periods in the country – the Vargas era (1930 – 1945) and the beginning of the Military Dictatorship (1964-1970) -, allowing the study of the procedures of censorship processes and their effects on Brazilian artistic production.
