Obcom is the result of a long trajectory of research on censorship and freedom of expression, which began in 2001. Heir to the Miroel Silveira Archive (see the Links section of this site), this history is linked to the rescue, in 1988, of more than 6,000 census documents from the Department of Public Entertainment of the State of São Paulo. (see here: http://obcom2013.webhostusp.sti.usp.br/nossa-historiam.php).
Since 2021, Obcom has opened up other perspectives, such as press freedom issues in Brazil, with the automated data search tool, as well as its visualization, from the historical series of reports from the National Federation of Journalists (FENAJ), available at home and in the “Search” section. It also participates in the international project funded by the Research Council of Norway in conjunction with Oslo Metropolitan University, University of the Witwatersrand and Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma at Columbia Journalism School, “Security Issues: Research and Education on the Safety of Journalists in Cooperation Norway-Brazil-South Africa and USA”.
In addition, he continues to research and produce academic texts on freedom of expression and the area of the Arts, censorship and also the new types of censorship in contemporary times.
